AJ Bell Great Birmingham 10K & Half Marathon

What’s happening?

The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run 10K and Birmingham Half Marathon is scheduled to go down on Sunday 04 May 2025.

Road closures will be in place throughout the day as runners embark on a route taking them through a number of landmarks across the city. This includes:

  • Broad Street, Centenary Square.
  • Jewellery Quarter.
  • Chamberlain Clock at Warstone Lane and Vyse Street.
  • St Paul’s Square.
  • City-centre route that features the Mailbox, Grand Central at New Street station, St Martin’s Church, Southside and Digbeth.

You will still be able to get to where you need to go but you'll need to plan ahead and allow more time for your journey with diversions in place.

Transport Advice

Travelling by bus


To allow the Birmingham Marathons to take place, various buses will be diverted for the event. The National Express West Midlands bus services: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7, 8A/C, 9, 12/A, 13/A, 16, 17, 23, 24, 35, 45, 47, 50, 52, 60, 80, 82, 87, 97, 101, X1, X2, X8, X10  will be subject to diversion and/or bus stop changes from the start of service until the routes will re-open on Sunday 04 May. Diamond 16A bus service and Stagecoach 46 bus service will also be following the dedicated diversion route.

Metro:  


Metro will operate between Wolverhampton and Bull Street from the start of service until 14:30. There will be no service from Bull Street to Edgbaston Village during this time.


Rail:  


Rail services are unlikely to experience a significant impact.


Travelling by car


There will be road closures and diversions in place. Road closures along the route will be implemented between 04:30 and 08:00 with re-openings between 12:00 and 16:00. Plan ahead and check your route. More information on the road closures can be found here.

Plan ahead. Leave more time for your journey to take account of road closures and diversions.
If you are travelling in the area by bus or tram, plan ahead and leave more time for your journey. Your journey might be impacted by the diversion route and bus stop changes or the shortened tram service.
Plan your journey. You can do this by using our Journey Planner.
